DISH

First half of the 19th century h.: 6.5 cm
d. (rim): 22 cm d. (base): 5.5 cm

A broad dish with a flat everted rim, narrowing down to a ring base. Red earthenware, with a white slip on the inside, topped by a transparent, colourless glaze, and painted over the glaze in reddish brown. At the center is a large checkered ship with its sails furled, its banners waving, and appearing to be anchored at both ends. Below it are tiny, extremely stylized boats. The outer surface has been left with neither slip nor glaze.
